Acrylic the Hot New IT Material in Design
Okay I admit acrylic furniture isn’t what you would typically find on the showroom floor of your favorite home furnishings store. Actually, you probably associate acrylic furniture with funky artsy-phartsy interiors depicted in Mod style movies but there has been a gradual trend in the home furnishings industry to warmly embrace acrylic as a viable and now inexpensive alternative to wood. Also advances in plastic composition technologies have eliminated the dreaded fogging that used to occur with plastic furniture as it aged.
If you want to be on the forefront of this new and exciting home fashion trend you can – and best of all it’s really affordable now. For the most amazing pieces of furniture that can easily pass for art visit any of the following :Hive Modern (sells the magnificent Phillipe Stark Louis Ghost chair pictured on the left) Plexi-Craft, Thomas Plastic, Spectrum LTD
Home Decor Style Fall Forecast
This fall season home design is all about contrast and surprise. Merging traditional styles with stark colors to give birth to a new version of modern design. It’s about breaking with the conventional and embracing the bold and adventurous.
Haute Couture Style – Dahlings, the latest in home accessories and decor design has been inspired by the feminine and sophisticated run way collections of Chanel and Oscar de la Renta. It’s drama and it’s elegance from your home’s ceilings to her floors. The trend is black lace and lacy patterns juxtoposed upon stark white backgrounds for a stunning play in contrast.
Speaking of Black & White – High drama and confident sophistication are in play with the simple yet elegant color palette of black and white. The use of black and white as the primary colors in home decor and accessories has allowed designers to combine styles such as modern with classic creating a new style. This sleek, elegant style combines design elements that in the past would have been at odds with each other such as contemporary granite, traditional crystal, leather and fur. Now all those elements blend to create a harmonious design scheme to please even the most picky of home owners.
Paradise Found - Exotic luxe is a new style that combines animal inspired prints, natural materials and jungle patterns with contemporary design. This is not your traditional Safari, India or Carribean inspired exotic design – this is an exciting new animal (so to speak). Imagine a modern interpretation of a Louis XV chair created with bamboo and hand-woven rattan cushions and there you have the very defintion of Exotic Luxe design.

In honor of Fashion Week I offer you the newest muse of the kings and queens of haute couture. The not so skinny yet unmistakeably beautiful muse without temper tantrums or diva pouts the …luxury condo.
One can’t venture too far into downtown Tampa (where our business is based) and not take notice of the numerous luxury condo offerings. Whether it is the uber luxe Plaza being developed on Harbour Island, The ubiquitous Trump Towers in downtown or the Five-Star architectural feast of the Bellamy fronting the beautiful winding Bayshore Drive with its million dollar views they all have one thing in common – unsurpassed luxury and style. Characteristics only seen and delightfully experienced in the finest international hotels can now be found at home. With 24 hour concierge service, valet parking, yoga and fitness centers, wine cellars and activity/business conference rooms that rival those seen at the Breakers in Palm Beach. Viking, Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, marble floors, hand-milled tiles, and exotic woods are all standard fare. However that is only where the luxury starts. You can now expect the finest in haute couture as part of the luxury condominium offering.
The trend to add designer cachet to luxury condominiums has been steadily increasing. Many condominium developers have sought out world renowned designers such as Jean Nouvel or Philippe Starck to design the interiors. Of course even if a designer isn’t explicitly part of the design as in the case of Armani“ his name is still invoked and associated with the interior design simply by using items from his collections. For fashionistas Peter Som is known for his exquisite fashion collections. Now an entirely different demographics group is learning about Som as he has emerged as the wunderkind of the Fashion Designer / Interior Designer class. His breathtaking haute couture has successfully crossed-over from the world of textiles to the world of architectural materials. Most famous is his amazing interpretation of a black and white lace dress from his Spring 2006 collection into a carved metal staircase in the lobby of 485 Fifth Avenue a high-end property in New York. We can expect far more designers to add interior designer/architect to their resumes and not only will Fashionistas and others be able to say “I wear Som or Dior” but “I live in a Som or Dior”.
Expect to see the haute couture for the home trend to continue to grow as more upscale homeowners demand added luxury touches in their homes. Also as in all fashion trends you can expect to see a less expensive pret-a-porter version of home haute couture as the trend toward luxury items grows to encompass more than just high-end property owners.
