Spring and Summer 2007 Decorating Color Trends

Industrial color theme is cool , edgy, definitive, strong ,minimalist , masculine and
powerful. These are the colors of an urban loft set against an industrial background. There is an intrinsic minimalism in the use of these colors – imagine an open airy loft with black granite counters, stainless steel appliances, gray concrete floors, bright white italian leather sofa, geometric detailed pillows in gray-violet and steel blue. The Pantone color swatch on the right depicts the Industrial color palette.

Bright Lights/Flashes of No-Fear Color reminiscent of the the strong bold colors found in the fashion and make-up of the eighties. These are wonderful colors that work beautifully with the black and white trend that’s back again in full force. These colors work best in accessories or accent pieces. If any of these colors are used in major details such as a sofa or a wall then all other pieces should be relegated to a supporting color role. These colors are perfect for modern crisp interiors. On a side-note I’ve noticed these fun bold colors in my recent Sephora catalog – just goes to show you that color trends in fashion and beauty soon find their way into our home’s decor :)

Romance /Softness embodies this color palette. The Pantone swatch at the right depicts the soft, etheral colors that are almost transparent in nature. These colors work beautifully in minimalist modern interiors as well as in any of the following decorating styles romantic, victorian, shabby chic or simple casually relaxed elegance that can be found in the pages of my favorite home decor catalog – Brocade.

The Sensual Nature color palette is warm and inviting with just a few touches of coolness. This is the color palette for interiors that embrace the exotic, ethnic and earthy. Interiors that may remind one of travels to tropical escapes such as Bali. This palette has a time-worn quality to it – yet still remains fresh and new. Decor fitting of this palette include hand-made, woven exotic crafts, worn and distressed denims, leathers and woods.

Earthy Elegance – a favorite from Fall 2006 with incredible staying power. These beautiful neutrals are at home in modern, transitional and traditional decor. As I wrote back in the fall this color and design palette:

captures the essence of a home filled with traditional heirloom furniture rich with history and décor, pillows and throws that beckon you to the sofa for an indulgent evening of reading your favorite novel while sipping a richly flavored espresso as candles, gracefully displayed on hand-crafted candlesticks with their colorful and rich history etched in a soft green patina, softly illuminate the room for a feeling of warmth and luxurious comfort. Miami Beach Home Show Trends 2007

Traditional and transitional decor were a rarity at the Miami Beach Home Show. Contemporary design inspiration was found at many of the vendors – one particularly strong theme was the modern re-interpretation of traditional seaside design. Modern clean colors such as turquoise, aqua, coral, bright yellow, light green and fuschia pinks were the standouts – coral, shell, the shiny inside of abalone and other sea treasures were front and center. The sea decor theme was often teamed up with the “rough” wood texture of rattan, teak and bamboo. Leather accents and glass accessories completed the modern seaside decor theme.

Photographing the home decor displays was a big no-no (rules are a pain at times) but I did manage to get a few photos of the products I really liked and wanted to share with you. Images from left to right: Coconut Shell throw pillow, aqua outdoor tabletop trays (with shell and coral motif) and stemware, Leather and metal stacking ottomans (with storage – they are a dark warm brown similar to the color tone of the coconut shell pillow but they photographed dark almost black), Seashell Stationary and Beaded Coral silk pillows.
