Hip and Modern Wall Coverings
As one who pretty much hates wallpaper (it’s all related to one horrific episode of suffering through the painstaking removal of wallpaper) I was inexplicably drawn to the wall coverings shown below. Utter the words wallpaper or wall covering adhesive and I bolt for the door because I know full well that what goes up will eventually come down but as I said I am drawn to these amazingly beautiful wall coverings by shop4wallpaper.com. I specially love the “Hip to be Square” wall covering on the left – just gorgeous.
For a 53.5 inch (H) by 144 inch (W) mural the price is less than $400. Custom sizes are
also available – which is great because nothings standard anymore it’s all about custom walls. At less than $400 these wallcoverings are also so much less expensive than hiring a muralist.
Sferra 1891 Bedding Collection for Fall 2007
Sferra the manufacturers of high quality Italian fine linens and bedding has announced that it will be debuting a new bedding collection aptly named 1891 (the year Sferra was established). The collection will be available for viewing to the trade at the August 2007 New York International Gift Fair (by appointment only).
According to the June 22, 2007 Home Textiles Today issue Sferra will introduce this new bedding collection at:
…slightly lower price points, intended to broaden its presence in better department and boutique stores. At the same time, the collection reaches out to a larger demographic than Sferra’s highest-end goods: first-time households, summer and second homes and younger design enthusiasts.
That’s fabulous news for those of us with champagne design dreams but without the Paris Hilton trust fund to accompany those lavish design and decor fantasies. And when they mean “slightly lower price points” it truly is -
Sferra will present 1891 as sets, with a queen duvet set retailing at $249, sheet sets at $199, and dec pillows from $60 to $110.
That’s unbelievably affordable – and Sferra is known for unsurpassed quality so I am positive these inexpensive linens will feel like they cost hundreds more than what you paid!
When new details on the Sferra 1891 collection become available we will report them back to you.

Trump Rugs – New Rug Collection from The Donald
The Trump name is synonymous with refined elegance and quality and said name has been attached to luxury condominiums, exclusive clothing lines, a successful television show, water (yes even water) and now you will be able to find the coveted Trump name on the newest rug collection from Miresco Decorative Rugs.
The Trump Floor Fashion Collection is so new that there aren’t even photos yet (at least on the Miresco website) but I will definitely be checking back to see what amazing floor coverings will bear the Trump name. The full Trump rug collection will make it’s debut in July at the Atlanta International Area Rug Market.
Lighten Up For Summer Decor
Isn’t summer great? Just thinking about the summer makes me feel light and airy. And that’s a huge task considering I live in hot and steamy Florida but nonetheless summer makes me want to lighten my hair, my wardrobe and my interior decor.
Here are a few of my favorite decorating tips to create an airy and light interior:
- Change out all heavy linens with soft cotton blends. Want to stay cool on hot summer nights? Then add a high thread count fine bedding set to your bed and enjoy the crisp cool feeling each time you slip in between the sheets. Don’t forget to choose light colors that coordinate with your decor.
- Store away any dark lampshades and replace them with – you guessed it- light and streamlined lampshades that coordinate with your lamp’s base.
- Bring in seasonal flowers and strategically place them throught your house. Not only are they pretty but they will bring a smile to your face and brighten your day.
- In the kitchen fill a large glass bowl with limes and lemons for a bold bit of color. The plus side is you’ll have those delicious citrus at hand to make a refreshing pitcher of lemonade! How’s that for versatility?
- Paint it lighter. This may not be so practical and may be a bit expensive to do seasonally. But if you have the time and the money then GO FOR IT. Nothing says change better and louder than a fresh coat of paint. Tips 1 thru 4 are like buying a new lipstick and it makes you feel pretty but new wall paint well that’s like spending a week in the spa and coming out feeling and looking 10 years younger
Television Opportunity for Designers
Recently, I was contacted by one of the producers for “Groom My Room“. They are looking for interior designers or decorators to participate in season three of this children’s design show which airs on Mediacorp TV12′s Kids Central. The details follow:
There will be nine episodes, and the first episode will be telecast on
the 21 July 2007. The programme is a reality TV game show for kids,
9-12 years old. Kids are given a budget of $500 to do up their rooms
in a theme of their choice. They get the help of their friends, a pair
of handymen, a painter and an interior designer. The challenge is to
stay within the budget and complete the makeover on time. If they do
this the kids will be rewarded with a $100 voucher. The interior
designer helps the child conceptualise their dream theme, and helps
them get it together.Would you be interested in participating in this programme and being
featured on the show as a design consultant (interior designer) for an
episode (or two) of “Groom My Room”? It will involve speaking to a
child and designing a room for them, suggesting where to buy things.
We’ll be filming nine episodes between 20 Jun and 19 Aug.
Unfortunately for me the show films in Singapore – that’s quite the distance from Florida but if you are a designer in that area contact Yew Meng at yewmengchong@movingvisuals.com.
Good Luck
