Bright Collaboration: Peronda & MUT Design Introduce Neon “Scales” Ceramics

Triggering memories of the late 80s’ fluorescent and neon inspired fashion and beauty craze, the ceramic wall tiles, “Scales,” a collaborative design project between luxury Spanish tile-maker Peronda’s Fashion Lab Harmony brand and edgy design studio MUT wowed the crowds at Cevisama 2015.

Color Casting Optical Illusion. Peronda’s “Scales” wall tiles edged in fluorescent hues of orange, green, yellow, pink and blue as well as neutral black magically cast their saturated colors against the smooth glazed white ceramic surfaces adjacent to them.

The design motivation for this intriguing, innovative and artful ceramic tile collection was to replicate the striking luminescence seen in the naturally occurring phenomenon one observes as light filters through the water and bounces off the scales of swimming fish. This beautiful and ephemeral organic iridescence is the inspiration for the color optical illusion design engineering behind the “Scales” tile collection.

Architectural Art. Wall tiles so beautiful and edgy they pass as a modern day interpretation of Warhol’s color saturated Pop Art movement. Pink and black edged porcelain tile "Scales" collection from Peronda & MUT Design. | The Decorating Diva, LLC

The varied thickness of the tile from a thick outer point to a thinner inner point also helps further the optical illusion by providing a tapered three dimensional look that works perfectly with the color casting created by the neon colored tile edges.
