Chushin Kobo’s new collection, “Rikyu”, combines traditional cast-iron kettleware with a modern styled porcelain teapot lid with hand painted motifs such as goldfish, bamboo shoots, traditional Japanese art and flowers.

Hianori Masuda, Caster, Designer and founder of Chushin-Kobo iron casting studio, seeks to “recreate objects retaining the beauty of traditional Japanese cast iron but stylishly adapted to fit the contemporary life-style.” He primarily works with iron, aluminum, and bronze.

Mr. Masuda’s striking functional cast metal art has been on exhibit at various prestigious international galleries and museums including London’s Victoria and Albert Museum,  Museum of Modern Art of New York, and the Carnegie Museum of Art.
