Where Design Meets Art: My Fave Tabletop Talents at Ambiente 2015

From my first visit to the Talents section in August of 2012 for Messe Frankfurt’s Tendence fair as well as my subsequent visits to the Ambiente and Interior Lifestyle Tokyo design fairs in 2013, I’ve been captivated by the quality and depth of artistry and design skills showcased in the Messe Frankfurt Talents program. This year was no different. Below I share four of my favorite design discoveries from the Ambiente 2015 Talents dining and tableware section. I hope you enjoy these beautiful finds as much as I do.

Tadeas Podracky Pineapple Glass Jars. Ambiente 2015 Tabletop Talents | The Decorating Diva, LLC

Blurring the line between art and functionality, these blown glass colored and mold-formed pineapple jars attest to the genius of creating functional objects that double as beautiful art for the home. (Designed by Tadeas Podracky.)

Designed by Moij Design these tabletop objects are inspired by Japanese art of paper folding -oragami. Tabletop Talents Ambiente 2015 | The Decorating Diva, LLC

Exquisite artistry that illustrates the versatile nature of ceramics. Elevating the common table top object into a work of art that is both beautiful and useful. (Designed by Moij Design.)

Interactive design where a table top object becomes an interactive art piece. Designed by Kim Hyun Joo at Talents Ambiente 2015 | The Decorating Diva, LLC

Crossing the boundaries between a merely functional object designed with one use in mind, Kim Hyun Joo‘s captivating nature inspired “Fallen Leaf” tray, made of Hanji paper, takes on a multitude of forms which shift shape based on the user’s needs.

Beautiful ceramic tea caddies, designed by Alexander Spenst, to function as tableware and modern sculptural objects for the home. Ambiente Dining & Table Decoration Talents. | The Decorating Diva, LLC

This architecturally inspired tableware collection of ceramic tea caddies designed by Alexander Spenst boasts bold color blocking combinations (some contrasting, others harmoniously analogous) that capture the eye.

About the Talents Program:   “The selection of the Ambiente Talents 2015 is an international cross-section taken of the world of creative young people. Thanks to a mixture of curiosity and endurance, their projects achieve unseen and surprising results that enrich the world of beautiful and useful things...The selected university graduates, young designers and design studios are given one of the much sought-after stands in the Talents area. To enable good ideas to be transformed into successful products, Messe Frankfurt has been helping young designers along the road to a successful career with its Talents format ever since 2001. Each of the promising Talents receives their own stand, including infrastructure, free of charge and can in this way present themselves to thousands of international visitors and make new contacts.” (more at Ambiente Talents’ Site)
