Eco Friendly Rugs – 2009 Top 12 Picks

Eco friendly decorating that’s stylish, practical, and innovative has finally hit the floor. Graphic designer Judit Gueth is a raising star who’s leaving her unique sense of style on a range of products including greeting cards, decorative pillows, wall papers, and rugs.  She’s creating beautiful home decor and she’s been able to do so in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible fashion epitomizing the number two trend  in The Decorating Diva.com’s “Hot 10 Home Decor Trends for 2009”.

Nani Marquina is the gold standard when it comes to eco-chic. So it comes as no surprise that two rugs on The Decorating Diva.com’s “Top 12 Stylish Eco-Friendly Rugs” list come from Nani Marquina.  Industrial designer Tord Boontje, Red Dot Award winner for the “Little Field of Flowers” rug shown here, has designed a sculptural visual treat composed of punched out flowers (from wool felt)  in a variety of shapes and monochromatic color tones mimicking natures’ grassy fields and flower-filled meadows.

Dreamweavers, early pioneers of the eco-decorating industry,  have been repurposing and giving new life to a range of discarded (and scrapped)  materials such as cotton, fleece, silk, chamois and shearling before being eco-friendly was a chic buzzword bantered about in design circles .

So So Rosey custom designed upcycled rug.  This one-of-a-kind rug is lovingly hand-crafted from “repurposed, previously loved (often vintage), freshly laundered fabrics-  primarily cotton sheets and pillowcases scouted at secondhand shops. “ , says Jennie, the talented designer and owner of So So Rosey.   According to Jennie her upcycled rugs are  given textural and visual interest through the use of patterns and a combination of fabrics including “brushed cotton alongside jersey knit and flannel”.  You can follow Jennie’s design and crafting process at her engaging blog.
