Interior Lifestyle Tokyo, located in the architecturally striking Tokyo Big Site, is one of the premier annual design fairs showcasing beautiful design ranging from traditional design to ultra modern designs in all areas including interiors, accessories, textiles, tableware and surface materials. Though a small show in comparison to design fairs such as Milan’s I Saloni, Paris’ Maison et Objet and parent company, Messe Frankfurt’s Ambiente, Interior Lifestyle Tokyo holds its own against those mega-design fairs in terms of the rich depth of talent and materials on show. Of particular interest to me was the exquisite variety of craft-inspired works created by artisans, one such find was the glazed ceramics designed and crafted by the artisans at Hasami.
The artist behind Nagasaki-based ceramics firm Hasami standing underneath beautiful light pendants, “Tank Lamps”, that are a modern re-interpretation of the traditional glazed ceramics associated with Japanese ceramic art. He was one of several ceramics and glass artisans exhibiting their wares at the Interior Lifestyle Tokyo design fair – the others included: Yoshinuma Glass, Gold Craft, Kihara, Mastercraft, and Kohsuke Toda.
