Mount Vernon Tour: Servants’ Quarters
Small and sparse living quarters housed the many servants and workers that kept Mount Vernon operational.
Above a stark minimalist approach to design – a bedroom with the bare minimum required for resting. There was no exquisite ornamentation or decor or richly painted walls like those in the main house (where the former president and first lady lived) in these small structures used to house the Mount Vernon labor. Shown below is a small, but functional kitchen and dining room in one of the servants’ quarters on the estate.
