Do-It-Yourselfers will be happy to learn that there is a new and exciting DIY website: refurber.com. refurber.com is a member supported community with members ranging from professionals to handymen to DIY-ers who share their remodeling, renovating, and decorating experiences through blogging, publishing advice and posting answers to member submitted questions.

There are, of course, dozens if not hundreds of DIY forums and portals; so what makes refurber.com special? Again, I point to their sense of community. The members are kind and caring to one another. As with their sister site, minti.com (a parenting and life portal), refurber.com focuses on bringing out the good in people and rewarding those who are civil to one another.

Refurber.com also boasts quite a few creative and visionary community members such as professional renovator James Van Raden (refurber member name: ParagonRenovations). He generously shares trade secrets and does so in an easy to understand and to follow manner (who can say that about most DIY manuals?). One advice article he wrote on installing laminate flooring was enlightening and spot on – specially when he focused on the details that most DIY-ers would never know to do such as “pull out the appliances and install the flooring in the areas that the appliances go into”. Great advice considering that someday you will want to purchase new appliances and will find that you imprisoned the old appliances behind a layer of flooring. Getting appliances out of such a situation is not fun and it can add additional costs to your new appliance installation.

Advice and recommendations abound at refurber.com. Recently, member Izzy posted a question regarding water damage in her home. Community members were quick to share their advice and experiences and even some interesting tips for determining if mold was hiding under the water damaged area.
